Message a novelty at the time. When they were practicing the carrier landings, the flight pattern took the planes directly over the house. And they were low enough that you could almost read the pilot's name painted on the canopy. At the time, it was really cool to watch.

Now that I'm well past my college years, it's a distant memory. If I had to experience it now, I'm sure the novelty would wear out in no time. :-)
